For Whom the Water Flows

Tips When Replacing A Well Pump

If you have a bad well pump, then you need to replace it so that you can keep using the water well. There are a couple of things you want to do to make replacing a bad well pump more of a structured process.

Verify the Pump is Bad

If your well pump is difficult to get to -- such as one with a submersible design -- then you want to make sure the pump is indeed bad. That will help ensure taking the well pump out and replacing it is needed to keep using your water well.

If you know how these pumps work and can diagnose their problems, then making this assessment may not be that hard. Whereas if you don't know a lot about these pumps, you may need to have a professional inspection carried out so that you can see what condition the well pump is in.

Drain Water From the Pumping System

If the well pump is indeed bad, then you need to get the replacement pump ready by draining water from the pumping system. This is key in ensuring the replacement pump is set up properly to give you uninterrupted performance from a water well.

Once water has been properly removed from the pumping system, you can begin setting up the replacement water pump. You should then get optimal pressure and performance. A lot of well owners neglect this step and then wonder why their replacement pump doesn't work like it should.

Prime the Replacement Pump

Once the faulty well pump has been removed and you've hooked up the replacement pump correctly, you need to prime it. This simply involves pouring water into its outlet pipe. This is going to help the pump work efficiently once it starts running for the first time.

Whereas if you didn't prime the replacement pump after setting up the appropriate connections, you could cause damage to the pump. As long as the replacement well pump is able to retain this water, you can start using the water well and know that the pump doesn't have any defects that would take away from its performance.

If you aren't able to use a well pump correctly anymore, you may decide to get a replacement. It will remain a good investment if you spend time seeing what measures you need to take for a proper setup. The well pump manufacturer can help if you need guidance.
