For Whom the Water Flows

What To Do When A Toy Is Stuck In Your Toilet

If you have young children, sooner or later you may be faced with the problem of a toy being stuck in the toilet. When a toy is stuck in the toilet it can cause unimaginable problems. Your toilet may overflow if flushed. No one wants to have to deal with this situation and the best way to get yourself is to try to get rid of the toy as soon as possible. Here are some tips that will help.

Try to Remove the Toy

If you can still see the toy then you are in luck. Try to take some of the water out of the toilet so that you can easily access the toy. You can use a can to start removing some of the water from the toilet. Try to do this as carefully as you can to avoid pushing it down the drain. If these efforts are not met with success or if you accidentally push the toy further down into the drain you may have to use a plunger.

 Use a Plunger

If your effort to get the toy out of the toilet has failed, then you will need to use a plunger to try to push the toy down the drain. This may take several thrusts of the plunger before you can get enough air force from the plunger to push the toy down the drain.

Be forewarned though that depending on the size of the toy, plunging could actually make things worse. The toy could get turned in a manner that completely blocks the drain. If it's a smaller toy there is a higher chance that plunging will work to shove it down the drain.

Use an Auger

If all the previous options don't work, it may be time for you to use an auger. To make this work all you have to do is put the auger in the toilet and start twisting it. The twisting action will cause the toy to become dislocated and it may go down the drain.

Get Professional Help

Sometimes, even when you use all of the methods that have been discussed above, you may still be unable to remove the toy from your toilet. As mentioned before, a clog in your toilet is never pleasant, especially if someone accidentally uses it. Once you notice that you cannot dislodge the toy, the best thing to do is to call in a plumber to fix the problem.
